“THEY CONSUMMATED THEIR MARRIAGE DESPITE BEING STRANGERS BUT WE CAN’T HOLD HANDS.”
Original Text
Raised vinyl lettering on metal plate (installted on a pre-existing kissing sculpture at university)
12 x 18 inches
2020

It tries to address the subcontinental practice of arranged marriage and association of “shame” with courting. A public sculpture of a couple being intimate came across as ironic to me. The addition of the text-piece to the site formed a symbiotic relationship whereby each art piece benefitted from the other.
